SUGAR SKULLS

Day of the Dead (Dia de Los Muertos) celebrations are intended to maintain connection to loved ones who have passed on. Sugar skulls (calaveras) and other caricatures of death poke fun at the seriousness with which we can take life. Vicki Reid Smith's sugar skull series play with images of living flowers and draw on architectural angles.

RELIGIOUS WORKS

Vicki Reid Smith has interpreted common religious themes in a relevant, contemporary style. A geometric painting of Jesus Christ is created from 33 triangles representing the age he was crucified and the holy trinity.
